Mechanical bull with soft perimeter padding at an evening event

Safety and thrills combined

Soft perimeter padding, a wireless remote-controlled speed dial, and a trained attendant at the helm. The mechanical bull keeps the energy high and the photo ops rolling, and it is a show-stopper wherever we put it. See the full mechanical bull page for pricing and space requirements.

What your site needs

Carnival rides are heavier infrastructure than inflatables. These are the three things worth checking before you commit to a layout.

Power

  • The 45-foot Ferris wheel needs a dedicated 220V single-phase 50 amp circuit
  • The carnival swings need 2 outlets
  • The trackless train runs on battery, no hookup needed
  • No power on site? We rent generators

Space

  • 45-foot Ferris wheel: 60 ft x 60 ft plus 30 ft overhead clearance
  • Mechanical bull: 20 ft x 20 ft padded zone
  • Trackless train needs a clear route rather than a footprint
  • Leave room for queues, not just the ride itself

Setups at parks, schools, churches, and other public venues may require an additional inspection, and some municipalities require a permit for amusement rides. Tell us the venue when you ask and we will tell you what it needs. See our safety, inspections, and permits page.

Crews, safety, and inspections

Trained attendants

Every carnival ride is operated by our staff, never handed over to your volunteers. Additional event staff are available at $50 per hour, 4-hour minimum.

Pre-ride inspection

Bolts, welds, guardrails, harnesses, and belts are checked before the first rider, and each ride gets a test cycle with no passengers.

Height and weight limits

Each ride has its own limits, listed above. Post them at the queue so families know before they line up, not at the front of it.

Maintained on schedule

Pivot points, brake pads, bungee cords, harness webbing, and chain links are on daily, weekly, and monthly inspection cycles.

Licensed and insured

Fully licensed and insured in Missouri, with additional coverage available on request for venues that require it.

No loose articles

Phones, bags, and jewelry come off before riding. We recommend a secure bin at each ride entrance.

Tips for planning a carnival or festival

  1. 1
Start with a layout map. Sketch the space, mark each ride footprint, and leave room for lines, food stalls, and rest areas so traffic keeps flowing.
  2. 2
Balance big and small attractions. Pair the thrill rides with family-friendly options and games so every age has something to do.
  3. 3
Build in buffer time. Leave a cushion between setup, event hours, and breakdown. Weather delays and late guests are the norm, not the exception.
  4. 4
Communicate the rules early. Publish ride rules, height requirements, and wristband policies in advance so lines move and nobody is turned away at the gate.

Filling out the rest of the midway? Add inflatable games, dunk tanks, obstacle courses, concessions, and tents to the same order.

Carnival ride rental questions

How much does it cost to rent a carnival ride in St. Louis?

Our carnival rides run from $1,700 for the trackless train up to $17,500 for the 45-foot Ferris wheel, priced for a 4-hour rental. The mechanical bull is $1,800, the rock wall $2,400, the kiddie Ferris wheel, carnival swings, Tubs Of Fun, and Ultimate Bungee are $3,500 each, and the amusement super slide is $5,000. Additional hours are $250 each.

What power do carnival rides need?

It depends on the ride. The 45-foot Ferris wheel needs a dedicated 220V single-phase 50 amp circuit. The carnival swings need two standard outlets. The trackless train runs on battery for up to six hours and needs no hookup at all. If your site has no power, we rent generators.

How much space does a Ferris wheel need?

The 45-foot Ferris wheel needs a 60 ft by 60 ft footprint with 30 ft of overhead clearance, so watch for power lines and tree limbs. The kiddie Ferris wheel is 12 ft tall and needs far less. Leave extra room beyond the footprint for the queue.

Are there height or weight limits on the rides?

Yes, and they differ by ride. Riders under 42 in must ride the big Ferris wheel with an adult. The kiddie Ferris wheel has a 36 in minimum. The rock wall requires 48 in and caps at 250 lbs. The mechanical bull is 16 and up with a 225 lb limit, and the Ultimate Bungee is ages 10 and up, also capped at 225 lbs.

Do you provide staff to run the rides?

Yes. Carnival rides are always operated by our trained attendants, never handed over to your volunteers. If you need extra staff elsewhere at your event, event staff are $50 per hour with a 4-hour minimum.

Do I need a permit or inspection for carnival rides?

Setups at parks, schools, churches, and other public venues may require an additional inspection, and some municipalities require a permit for amusement rides. Tell us the venue when you ask and we will tell you what is needed and help arrange it.

How far in advance should I book carnival rides?

As early as you can. We hold one of most of these rides, and festival season books out first. A 50% deposit reserves your date and is credited toward a future rental if you cancel within 48 hours of your event.

Can carnival rides be set up indoors?

Some can. The trackless train is electric and runs indoors comfortably, and the mechanical bull sets up inside as long as the space clears its 20 ft by 20 ft footprint. The 45-foot Ferris wheel needs 30 ft of overhead clearance, so it is an outdoor ride in practice.
